“It was a bunch of Negroes [killed in #1 mine]. And they sealed them off (1948). They posted in all different languages, ‘Don’t go in this area.’ And put up chain link fences.” “When that happened, they run the Negroes out of Zeigler.” When they came to town as carnival workers, they couldn’t spend the night.
