Email from 2010:
“I think for the state of pennsylvania, york county should be added to the list of sundown town/counties. The county had alot of race riots in the past…Most of the Black residents of York county are from Baltimore, Maryland or somewhere in Maryland and recently just moved in due to cheap affordable homes. Most of the people here are closet racists but we all know most of them aren’t too happy about the amount of Blacks moving into the county. There are alot of racist incidents that happen at most of the high schools in York County. A friend that i graduated with from high school told me that in the 5th grade which should be about 2001 or 2002 she was the only Black person or person of color in our school district. Another friend told me when she first moved into our township(in 2005), her family was the first Black family there and there were greeted by a bunch of angry Whites who didn’t want them there. I also heard that the Klan resides in the southern part of the county.”
