“White City (no, I’m not making this up) is located in Morris County, southeast of Abilene. According to my ex?wife, White City at one time had a sign posted which read, “Nigger, don’t let the sun set on you in this town.” While I personally never saw the sign…”
White City doesn’t surprise me ?? That town is located in a conservative pocket of the state that produced some of the most virulent KKK activity in Kansas during the 1920s ?? and beyond. White City is another candidate for sundown status.
When I was married, my ex wife told me about the “Nigger, don’t let the sun set on you in this town” sign in White City, Kansas; I don’t believe she had seen it, but was going from the testimony of her mother and grandmother, who had grown up there.
