According to a former resident of Waseca: “the one African-American family who had lived in Waseca had been thrown out of town by the community sheriff. This was in 1969 after my sophomore year of college.”
The above story is widely known, but a descendant of the sheriff contests it, calling it “unsubstantiated rumor.” Another resident says the black family left on their own.
