The parents of a little-leaguer in Philo say someone in Villa Grove owes their son an apology after racial slurs are fired at him during a baseball game.
Considerable information about Villa Grove is in the book, SUNDOWN TOWNS, including a majority of eleven interviews to the effect that the original intent of the siren on the water tower that sounded at 6PM was to warn blacks to be out of town.
A long time resident of the town says that there was a sign warning blacks to be out by sunset. He says it was removed in the early 1960’s.
