Feb. 2012 email: “While Troy is relatively diverse in a cultural sense (large Arabic population, Indian population – with a Hindu temple, etc) it is still relatively racist against blacks. A common joke among the emergency services personnel (police, fire, EMS…of which I am one) is that people will call 911 for a BIT, “Black in Troy”. Several years ago a police officer pulled over a vehicle for the sole reason that the driver was black…and got a nasty surprise when he found out he had pulled over a Federal agent (FBI if I recall correctly) on his way down to Detroit. Sadly, racial profiling still happens.”
