MOTOWN RECORDS SINGER BARBARA LEWIS WAS/IS FROM SOUTH LYON (SALEM) MICHIGAN.
***

Email testimony: “I lived in this town in 1991-1993. I recall only one black person being in my school from 6th & 7th grade.”

Another resident reports: “I graduated with 520 students in 2000 and there were only two African Americans in my class. We are supposed to be one of the fastest growing towns in the US (CNN focused on us in a study of speedily developing areas in the nation not too long ago. I think it was in the late 1990s, maybe around 1998.) But for as fast as we are attracting new citizens, we are remarkably slow at increasing the racial diversity in town.”
