Selinsgrove has been accused of being racist because of the lack of black residents. However, from my knowledge of the town, the population doesn’t keep blacks out – basically, black families just don’t move there. There are some black families – the father of one is an excellent high school teacher who has organized a “tolerance” troupe (high school students) that travels around the area putting on performances and discussing topics in other school districts. I live in an adjacent town (I have no love for Selinsgrove, so I am not defending them for any reason other than I feel the reputation is unfair.)
