Comments

“I can’t comment about Red Wing being a ‘sunset town.’ I never heard that in the four years I was there. But I do remember an oral history of the St. James Hotel in Red Wing, in which a former employee clearly remembered that the hotel ‘didn’t rent to darkies.’ (African American servants would accompany employers to Red Wing, but would have to stay in a separate hotel.)”
