There was plenty of hostility to an African-American in this town. Even as late as 1995, racial slurs are heard and racial violence has taken place.
It seems as though the towns sundown policies broke in the mid to late 90’s. A resident in 2013 said that the town still has an older generation of racists, but that the younger generation is diverse and tolerant.
