Comments

A WV librarian notes that %u201Cthe whole state has a fairly homogeneous population%u201D and that there are %u201Cvery few people moving in or out.%u201D She also explained that Marmet was a coal-mining town that employed African Americans as miners. After the mines shut down, there wasn%u2019t a reason for anyone%u2014much less African Americans%u2014to stay. She also reminded me %u201CMarmet is a very tiny place.%u201D The librarian%u2019s rationale for the reason behind the small minority population is a simple one: %u201Cthere are not jobs in Marmet.%u201D
