Comments
“The Civil Rights Era didn’t affect Manila (that I know
of). Manila was a ‘sundown’ town. Blacks knew to get
out of town before sundown or they’d pay the
consequences. I have personal knowledge that as
recently as last year [2004] a black customer of ours
said he’d be crazy to stay in Manila after dark.
However, we have a new business in town owned by a
black woman and her family lives here in addition to a
family whose 12 children graduated from MHS.”
