Comments
Lambs Grove is a small bedroom community for
Newton, where Maytag is headquartered.
“A few years ago Maytag hired an African American
man as the CEO. It caused many eyebrows to raise.
When he tried to buy a house in the “suburb” of Lambs
Grove he found out there was a lien preventing a black
person from buying the property. Of course, this is
illegal today, but it sends a clear message. In public,
several incidents of people telling him to leave town
occurred (this is the late 1990’s). This is not the first
occasion of such racism. An African American fireman
was fired under mysterious circumstances after
repeated harrassment from other firefighters.”
