“We talked [circa 1986] as I recall, about the ‘good
ol’ days’ [circa 1950] and he further reminisced that
Irving was a very ‘white’ town. He said in fact, there
used to be a sign at the edge of town that said,
‘Niggers be out of town by sundown.’ He went on
further to say that ‘they’ weren’t even allowed in the
town at night.”
