A former resident said the following statement occurred in Irondequoit, NY:
“Police departments used the term “border patrol” either as a name for themselves or for the practice of pulling over minorities. Persons of colour are pulled over, questioned, possibly ticketed and sometimes escorted out of town after dark. The practice becomes widely known, and generally discourages persons of colour from returning, or considering the area as a place to live.”
The Irondequoit High School’s teams were called the “Indians” until it was changed, to “Eagles” about 10 years ago.
