“…many of the African American Buffalo Bills football players live in Hamburg. (Hamburg is minutes from the Bills’ stadium.) Two or three seasons ago, a Buffalo Bill named Leodis McKelvin (who is African American) fumbled late in a game with the New England Patriots, which led to a last minute defeat of the Bills. The next morning, McKelvin found his lawn (in Hamburg) spray-painted with a large picture of a man’s genitals. Perhaps, this wasn’t racially motivated, but I find it hard to believe otherwise. Additionally, I work at a college in Hamburg and have had many of my African-American students comment on the less than kindly treatment of the Hamburg police. Absolutely exasperating!”
