Maywood Colony, located in Corning, published
the following in an advertisement: “In most
communities in California you’ll find Chinese, Japs,
Dagoes, Mexicans, and Negroes mixing up and
working in competition with the white folks. Not so at
Maywood Colony. Employment is not given to this
element. All work at Maywood Colony is reserved for
Maywood colonists. And this is why I say that
Maywood Colony is a community of good people.”
