Email from a longtime resident:
“Notably absent from your list of CT towns though is neighboring Burlington, CT which was almost certainly an unofficial suntown town until the last maybe twenty years. I grew up there, there was one African American family, they lived near my grandparents and people were trying to run them out up into the mid-1980s. When I was in grade school, I got into a fight with their son over me being a pest (all 7 year olds are pests) and the principal asked us to keep it secret because he was concerned about retaliation against the family. My parents had black friends who would not come visit because the town had such a bad reputation regarding minorities. I don’t know if there was an ordinance but there was definitely harassment and racial-profiling.”
