A message from the SNCC email list on Aug. 18, 2014: “…John Crawford, a 22 year old black man, was shot by police and killed in a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, a nearly all-white suburb of Dayton, Ohio. He reportedly was holding a toy gun, perhaps a bb gun, one sold at Walmart. A Walmart customer dialed 911 claiming that he was “waving around” a gun. Crawford was on the phone with the mother of his children, who said she heard him say “It%u2019s not real!” and immediately after that, heard shots…”
