Email from 2/2014
“Known by most blacks esp young black males and now Latinos not to travel through after dark.”
Email from a nearby resident:
“East Haven has been in the news off and on since I moved here in 2001 for its aggressively unwelcome attitude toward people of color. Recently, I saw a news story that described a justice department investigation of the East Haven police department for its systematic harassment of Latinos that has resulted in a huge drop in East Haven’s Latino population over the past few years. East Haven’s possible sundown status is complicated by the fact that it’s an Italian-American enclave and the history of Italian-Americans as an unwanted minority group in Connecticut.”
