email 11/2007:
In about 1966-67, I was dating a girl from Russell, Kansas (the home of Bob Dole and Arlan Specter) who told me about “the signs” at her town. I did not believe her until I saw them myself. I think they were on old Highway 40 (the “Liberty Highway” as some have called it). I think the exact words were “The sun had better not set on a nigger in this town”. I was shocked, she was not, we broke up. I have told others about the signs and they denied it.
