Comments
Berwyn was a part of Cicero but separated in 1901 to become and independent township.
Berwyn, like Cicero, has “a strong KKK group.” Wall St. J. c. 1991 had story of black family who moved to Berwyn. They left a week after the story came out.
Berwyn HS is about 50% Hispanic but until recently Berwyn was still anti-black.
At one point some people considered Berwyn better or more prestigous than Oak Park, though its schools weren’t. Now Berwyn is less prestigious than Oak Park, has lost prestige as racist compared to Oak Park.
After c.1997, blacks have been able to move into Berwyn without difficulty, I think.
